The company started in 1921 during high world inflation. Richard Sieper built a foundry in Lüdenscheid on which basis the company operates today. In 1923 Aluminium cutlery was produced and the company grew step by step, a toolmakers' workshop was added to the production line and many products such as tobacco tins, matchstick boxes, ashtrays, powder-boxes were manufactured during the years that followed. From 1933 new materials were used and in 1943 the second production facility was opened in Hilchenbach, Siegerland. In 1950 the brand SIKU was shown at the first Nuremberg Toy Fair, the brand being an abbreviated name for SIeper KUnststoffe. In 1951 the SIKU fire engine with squirting water was introduced, in 1952 the SIKU Super racing car, in 1953 the amphibian car and in 1954 a furniture lorry with electric motor and lighting were hits in the toy industry. In 1959 SIKU aeroplanes were produced and 1963 marked the beginning of a complete change to production in metal. In 1983 Agricultural models began and in 1984 Sieper purchased the traditional model manufacturing company Wiking Modellbau Peltzer & Peltzer. Today's SIKU range offers over 200 models - plus more than 100 models with special international prints and colours for the export markets. Today SIKU is market leader in many parts of the world and exports to almost 100 countries.
